Community Connections

Rutherford Rede advisers have made, and continue to make, contributions to the communities in which they live. We appreciate the opportunity to make a difference in the fields of Dementia Charitable organisations, Macular Degeneration, Rotary and The Rotary Foundation, and professional bodies nationwide.

Dementia NZ

Rutherford Rede has a long established involvement with Dementia NZ providing voluntary consultancy to newly diagnosed Dementia sufferers who have a need for solid financial and legal structuring to occur in a timely fashion. Our Partner Jocelyn Weatherall also contributes to the organisation through the roles of Chair for Dementia New Zealand and Dementia Auckland. Dementia Auckland is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing dementia support services and inspiring those living with dementia to make the most of life. Dementia New Zealand and its affiliates believe that with the most up-to-date support programmes, improved environments, and connections to community, people affected by dementia can continue to live an enriching and enjoyable life.

Macular Degeneration NZ

Henry Ford is the Chairman-Elect for MDNZ (Macular Degeneration New Zealand).  MDNZ’s mission is to reduce the incidence and lower the impact of macular degeneration.  Macular degeneration is a deterioration of the macular in the eye and is the leading cause of blindness in NZ.  The effect is that central vision is lost and that loss can spread through the eye.  Awareness of macular degeneration in New Zealand is not high resulting in people becoming blind when it is not necessary.  The role of MDNZ is to increase awareness so that diagnosis is more likely and to ensure that the best treatments are available to all who can benefit.  Like all charities MDNZ operates on thin staff levels and a thin budget, but makes a big difference to many people’s lives.

IFA

We are also involved in our financial community here in NZ. Rutherford Rede advisers are members of our controlling professional body, the Institute of Financial Advisers (IFA). The IFA strongly encourages participation in continuing education courses and the renewal of the Annual Practising Certificate is based upon certain minimum hours being achieved. In the past our advisers have been involved at all levels of the organisation including President in 2002.
