Born and raised in Nelson, Adam moved to Christchurch in 2009 to complete a degree in finance and management prior to joining a company that provided research on the returns and risk taken by different investment funds. The Christchurch earthquakes and meeting Hazel (his now wife) literally and figuratively shook up his life and led to a move to Wellington to take on roles as a banker and as a registered financial adviser.

International travel has always been a passion and annual trips to Asia or South America were not enough to satiate the travel bug, so in 2014 he moved to London to explore Europe and to help manage the assets of some of the world’s largest institutional investors including sovereign wealth funds, global pension funds and the United Nations World Food Programme.

Upon returning to New Zealand to get married to Hazel, Adam became the adviser for the International Growth Fund at New Zealand government’s international business development agency (New Zealand Trade and Enterprise). He spent four years helping run the fund prior to joining Rutherford Rede in April 2021.

Adam lives in Ponsonby with his wife Hazel and one-year-old son. You might find him on weekends pounding the pavements of Ponsonby Road trying to get his son to nap, but he also spends his time mentoring businesses and young professionals. Outside of the “9 to 5”, Adam’s career has led him to act as a business mentor, investment committee member or board representative for a variety of organisations including Changemakers, Young Enterprise, and the Unlisted Securities Exchange (USX).

He also has a newly discovered interest in classic cars. You can ask him technical questions like “what colour is the classic car that you are restoring” but you might find him scratching his head if you ask technical questions about carburettors or engines. Luckily for us his skills are much better suited to helping clients plan for retirement, protect their assets, and transfer wealth to the next generation than they are to running a workshop or garage.
